British entrepreneurs are catching up with their US counterparts – According to BusinessesForSale.com

The British are buying more businesses than ever before – and they are willing to take the plunge at a younger age, according to a new survey by www.BusinessesForSale.com – the leading global site that connects buyers and sellers of businesses.

The survey also reveals that Brits are also more willing to relocate abroad to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.

The company surveyed nearly 2,000 visitors to its sites in both the US and UK and found, compared with a similar survey taken four years ago, that the British were becoming bolder in the business arena.

Around 61% of people looking to buy a business in the UK are first time buyers, compared with 53% in the United States. In 2003, the figure was just 40% for UK buyers.

UK women are more interested in business than their US cousins with a third of UK business buyers being women compared to just 20% in the US.

"More Brits are deciding to buy a business over starting one," says BusinessesForSale.com Director, Tony De Vizio. "If you are thinking of getting into business, buying an existing one now seems more appealing."

"This is because more people are aware of the increased chances of success when compared to starting up from scratch."

The profile of business buyers in the UK is also getting younger. Over 55% of UK buyers are aged between 18 and 44. In the US 49% of people are in this bracket.

In terms of relocating abroad, 34% of all business buyers questioned in the survey stated they would consider moving abroad if the right business became available. This compares to just 13% in the United States.

"UK business buyers have never been younger or hungrier," says De Vizio. "This survey proves that Britain is becoming more entrepreneurial."

BusinessesForSale.com attracts over 5m unique visitors every year (ABC audited) and has over 40,000 businesses for sale across the world.

It is also cheaper to buy a business here, with the average price of a UK business totalling £263,000 as opposed to $600,000 (£306.149) in the US.
